On Monday 20 February, during the European Film Market in Berlin, the European Commission will present the European Film Distribution call 2023 (automatic scheme) of Creative Europe Media.

The event is scheduled from 14.00-15.45 and the venue is Landesvertretung Schleswig-Holstein, In den Ministergärten 8.

The Call was opened on 8 December and beneficiaries will be able to apply until 27 April 2023. Find more information on the Commission's website here.

This year, media programme has integrated a platform in support of the implementation of Creative Europe. The MEDIA database allows searching for films created and qualified in the framework of the calls for proposals and request a film qualification in the framework of an open grant agreement.

Applicant distributors to the FILMDIST 2023 generation call are recommended to verify whether films for generation are already present in the database. If they are not, applicants should submit their Films in the platform before creating their admissions dossier with the application.

The 2023 Film Distribution action has a budget of 34 million Euros.

Expected Results:

  • Improvement in the trans-national distribution of recent non-national European films.

  • Increase in the investment in the production, acquisition, promotion, theatrical and online distribution of non-national European films.

  • Develop links between the production and distribution sector thus improving the competitive position of non-national European films.

There are two phases for the funded activities:

1. The generation of a potential fund which will be attributed according to the performance of the company on the European market.

2. The implementation of the action - the potential fund thus generated by each company must be reinvested in:

  • the co-production of eligible non-national European films;

  • the acquisition of distribution rights, for example by means of minimum guarantees, of eligible non-national European films;

  • promotion, marketing and advertising on the market of eligible non-national European films both for theatrical and online releases;

  • activities for eligible non-national European films.
